Programme of Educational Visits

The educational visits aim to create, together with participants, a space of the amplification of the experience with the Museu de Arte do Rio. Through dialogue and practical propositions starting from the exhibitions, the public and educators intensify sensitive and reflexive experiences of art, of culture and of the city. The educational visits are offered to public and private schools, universities, NGOs, associations and diverse groups.

Thematic Axes

From the moment of booking, the teachers or person responsible chooses one of four themes to follow, created using school curriculums and the exhibitions on show as a starting point.

1 – I see Rio de Janeiro

How many cities exist in the same city? From how many moments is a city created? What makes me feel I belong to a city? The visit proposes a dialogue on the different views and paths in Rio de Janeiro present in the exhibitions at MAR. Seeking to discuss the representations of the city and the sociocultural aspects which contribute to the constitution of a carioca imaginary, focussing on the arts, architecture and urban practice.

2 – Keep for memory

A visit designed to consider the relationship between memory and collection and museums as spaces of construction of collective identities, beginning from the constitution of heritage.

3 – Contemporary artistic practices

How is a work of art born? Sometime you’ve asked yourself: “Is this art?” We will investigate the processes of artistic research and construction, as well as the different languages used in contemporary art.

4 – My body at the museum

This visit proposes reflection on the question of the body in art, society and the museum. It discusses forms of representation and construction of bodies and individual and collective relationships with the space.

The Escola do Olhar offers a course for development and dialogue between teachers and educators at MAR, starting from the exhibitions and proposing the museum as a space for creation and shared knowledge. The objective is to contribute with the teacher in the preparation, conducting and consequences of the visit with the students. During the course, the teacher is presented with the exhibition and its contents and assumes active participation, identifying the possibility of relationships between artists and works of art within the context of the classroom.
